“Stop Making Sense” expresses an emotional experience or frame of mind. The artist used distortion and exaggeration to imbue this subject with willful confrontation and canny detachment.
The artist includes the title in French, positioned above two miniature figures drawn in a primitive style. There is irony throughout each element of this piece.
The primary figure seems disappointed, almost judgmental, as if they are observing the world and feel perplexed by what they see: things that once made sense do not seem to anymore.
When asked about the title, Bagwell commented “a lot of what appears to make sense to the world seems insane to me.” If logic has become subjective, is there still value in “making sense”?
