Geetle

48 x 36”
Oil on canvas
In memory of Donna Bando

Empowered women consistently appear in Bagwell’s work. She depicts women whose body language conveys strength, independence, and vulnerability.

The women’s direct eye contact reveals intelligence: their ambiguity asks us what they are thinking. Possibly the most successful elements in Geetle are the hands, feet, and enigmatic smile.

Vintage photographs are frequently sourced for facial references, and the artist often photographs herself for hand and foot positions.
